I culled a bunch of books that I will never read again (or in some cases read for the first time, since my tastes have changed since I bought the books), filled two shopping bags with them, and set off to the library to donate them. As my car left my driveway I felt a "pop" from the back tire. Sure enough, it had run over something and started to go flat, so I went straight to the tire store.

At the tire store, the good news was that I had bought the extended warranty, so the repair would be free. The bad news was that the front tires were so badly worn on the inside that they were ready to go soon, so I bought two new tires to replace them.

I like not working, but an income would be nice.

sigh. Books. sigh.

Good for you. I like you not working too because perhaps there is a chance of lunch sometime.

Oh no! At least it was in the drive. I had a tyre blow out doing 70 in the fast lane of the M5. The man at the garage did the clasic 'pursing of lips, shaking of head' when he saw the rest of the wheels.

...sigh, if only we could fix that needing-an-income thing...

That's what I figured -- at least it wasn't when I was on the freeway during rush hour.

After all, how many of the regular readers here would be driving on the M5 as a matter of course? ;-)

So true. I've only driven on the M5 a couple of times, but am willing to improve my record.

See anything interesting in the listings at Akamai? We're mostly in Cambridge, but we've got plenty of openings in San Mateo, too.

Do you have your resume up on Monster.com? I get a weekly list of things from them -- some FTE, some contract -- but there are always hits and headhunters trawl there, too.

Yes, and on Dice and The Ladders, too. I get calls from headhunters all the time, but nothing has come of it yet.
