This afternoon I called up [livejournal.com profile] hrj and we went to Borderlands Books in San Francisco for a reading by Katharine Kerr, whose latest Deverry novel just came out. This is the second-to-last book in a very long, very good series. The reading and Q-and-A were both interesting.

I spent the whole reading with Ripley, the store cat, asleep in my lap, which is notable because this is the first time in a very long time I've been able to hold a sleeping cat in my lap without sneezing. How is this possible? Because Ripley has no hair. (Since I'm allergic to cats, of course Ripley had to come directly to me and insist that my lap was the one for her.)

Afterwards, Kit, her husband Howard, [livejournal.com profile] hrj, and I all went out for dinner then over to their place for more discussion. Kit and [livejournal.com profile] hrj discussed linguistics, and I got to see a book that lists all of the known Gaulish names. Very cool, in a geeky way.

Then I dropped [livejournal.com profile] hrj back at her place and so to home.

[glyph of envy]

However, I have to admit I've looked at that book with the list of all the known Gaulish names before. A college 20 miles each of here has it in their library. But darned if I can remember the author's name; I do remember it begins with a W.

By rights, it should have Omnia Gallia in its name, but of course even after just seeing it I can't remember.

The first time I saw Ripley I thought she was a Giger sculpture.

Sorry I missed the signing. Son took me for a long ride to an Iris farm that had given me special permission to visit that one date only.

Lucky, lucky you!

Or at least very smart you, for being in the right place at the right time!

Love, C.

Her half-brother will be coming to visit her soon. He apparently looks just like her, only twice as big.
