How I Spent My Weekend, Part I

klwilliamsOn Thursday evening I drove down to L.A. The plan was that I would conveniently happen to be in town and be having lunch with my friend Morgan, so that if the hiring manager for the job I want at her company would like to meet me, I'd conveniently be there. Unfortunately, they're not going to hire for that job until third quarter, the hiring manager was out of town, and so on. I did get to have lunch with a very cool woman who is the director of engineering, the head of H.R. who has a new baby (one of my favorite topics), another tech writer, and Morgan, so somewhat was accomplished and I, at least, had a fun lunch. I hope I made a good impression (so at least these people don't go away wondering why Morgan has such weird friends). That afternoon I spent driving around Irvine seeing what's there (a lot of tech companies), and shopping in an incredible art store. (I bought some book binding supplies and some other odds and ends.) Morgan and I finished the day by going to happy hour at the local pub (unfortunately, no one from work could join us), and visiting SCA friends who live nearby.
Today I had lunch with Kevin at a Tibetan/Nepalese restaurant in Pasadena. (He's actually been to Tibet and Nepal. He sucks.) He'd never eaten there either, so we got some things to share. We had little fried vegetable dumplings with sauce (yummy), spiced goat on skewers (very yummy), and long thin noodles with mushrooms and other things cooked in with them (yummy). Kevin ordered a cardomom (sp?) tea with milk and other spices that was very good, too. (He shared.) Good food, good company, good lunch.
Then I drove home. Fortunately, there was very little traffic.
So, if anyone knows of any good jobs in the L.A. area, preferably in the northern part but really anywhere in the area is fine, please let me know. You can make a lot from employee referrals, you know. (I've made close to $8,000 from employee referrals in the last ten years.)
