Friday -- Canterbury
Apr. 8th, 2005 10:21 pmI've been to Canterbury before, but when I went there, the train only took about an hour. This time, probably because we went froma different station, the train took over two hours. We didn't get there until around noon, and headed straight for the cathedral. We strolled through the Medieval gate and past the shops, in the old Medieval section of town. I was very impressed last time, but having just come from York, I wasn't so much this time. Still, the Canterbury Cathedral was wonderful. We saw the Black Prince's tomb, and the light that shines where Thomas a Becket's shrine used to be. The cathedral has a wonderful undercroft was several cool chapels, and I love the cloister. I think I'll have a cloister just like it when I build my mansion.
We had Cornish pasties for lunch, which were delicious, then, since it was getting late, just wandered around the town some. We didn't get to see the Roman museum, but I had seen it before. Essentially, someone was digging a new cellar or something, and came across a Roman villa in excellent shape, so they turned their basement into a museum. Small, but worth seeing. Then we went to a fifteenth-century pub and had a drink, then caught the train back to London. And stopped at every station on the way back.
