I have season tickets to the San Jose Musical Theater, which I bought so that periodically I'd have to leave the house. Tonight was something they added after I bought my tickets, "Tapestry", which I thought would be a play based on the music of Carole King, a la "Mamma Mia", but was instead just six people and a very, very loud band singing songs written by her. I may have mentioned that the band was very, very loud. The singers were OK, and they certainly tried, but what they were hired to do was sing classic songs written by someone who not only made the songs famous but was a much better singer. The set, such as it was, consisted of some white flats that I think were meant to be a tapestry, designed by someone who had no idea what a tapestry was. Every now and then someone flashed colored lights on them in an ugly pattern. I left at intermission, but only because I was seated in the middle, so leaving after the third song would have meant walking in front of people. From what I could tell, about fifty other people left when I did.
