Sports day
Feb. 22nd, 2008 10:58 pmToday after class Dave spent some time attacking me with a sword. My job was to take the sword away. In the last year or so Dave has gone from being very good to being very, very good, and taught me some things about blending with my attacker, and extending, that I thought I already knew but clearly didn't. I now know what I need to practice, and am also pleased that my friend is helping me out so much.
This evening my mother and I went to the tennis tournament. A guy at work suggested that champions really play against themselves as much if not more than against their opponents. My favorite, James Blake, lost, and wasn't really in the match mentally at all. In the second match, the guy who had been playing the best of the two managed to blow it in the last game, thus losing the match, even though he had won more games overall. This was an interesting lesson in how important it is to stay focussed and aware, and to relax and stay involved.
