I was washing arugula for a salad when it hit me: I'm about to eat leaves for dinner. That was a very liberating thought, for some reason. I decided that since I was fixing leaves, and leaves have a humble nature, then I could do with them as I pleased. I tore the leaves up into bite-sized pieces, mixed them with a different kind of leaf, and added chopped radishes and leeks. Delicious.

Did you know that you can steam green beans in the microwave, in under two minutes? I was very excited to find this out. And the green beans were delicious.

A few months ago I hired a housecleaning service called The Maids to come do a deep cleaning on my house. This is fairly standard for a service like this, as they like to get everything to a good baseline before starting regular service. The Maids did a good job, but there were some weirdnesses. They dusted behind the books in the bookcase, then pushed all the books back up against the back of the case. Wrong. Also, as I've mentioned before, the turtles like to leave red smears on my white carpet. I'd tried to clean the carpet before The Maids cleaned, using one rug cleaner that had worked at my old house, but this time didn't work. The Maids left the stains there.

Today, The Merry Maids did a deep cleaning. Not only was everything spotless and in its place, they also cleaned the spots in the rug without being asked. Hooray! I've hired them to clean once a month. I'm very pleased.
