The Mightiness of Thor
May. 7th, 2011 03:57 pmI never liked Thor in the comic books, but I really enjoyed the movie. I won't talk about the plot, though there was one, but I will give my thoughts:
1. It passed the Bechtel test, but just barely. Jane and Darcy spoke to each other about the physics project before Thor ever showed up, and Sif spoke to Frigga about [spoiler] before asking about Thor. However, Thor and Erik did mostly talk about Jane, so that was an interesting switch.
2. No naked women. A very ripped, half-naked man. No complaints from this quarter, but YMMV.
3. Stan Lee cameo spotted. Not even a cameo, as he appears in the credits as a named character.
4. J. Michael Straczynzki cameo spotted, shortly before the Stan Lee cameo. I thought, "why is JMS in this movie?" then decided it couldn't have been him, then spotted his name in the credits for Story.
5. I loved Heimdall. You'll see why.
6. I thought Loki was cuter and more interesting than Thor, but then I prefer dark hair over blond. And Thor got more interesting as the story progressed, which is what is supposed to happen.
7. The sidekicks...er, the warrior companions actually had distinct personalities. I cared when they were in danger.
8. Stay past the credits.
9. Kenneth Branagh directed this, and while it's still a summer popcorn movie and not "Henry V", it's a good summer popcorn movie.
