Reading Wednesdays
Apr. 11th, 2013 03:48 pmOnly it's Thursday, and my cat Mac is sleeping with his head on part of my keyboard.
Adaptation
, by Malinda Lo. Reese is a high school student from San Francisco who was waiting in the Phoenix airport with her debate partner David when she saw birds fall from the sky. Shortly after this an announcement came that a plane had fallen from the sky. Soon she and David learn that so many planes have suddenly crashed that all flights are cancelled, and they join their faculty adviser in a drive home to California. But the freeways are swamped with refugees, and the military has commandeered the southbound side of the freeway.
A Play of Heresy (A Joliffe Mystery)
, by Margaret Frazer. I've read all of her Sister Frevisse mysteries, and all of the Joliffe the Player mysteries that spun off from them. In this one, Joliffe will be investigating a murder (of course), and the Lollards may be involved.
A Place of Execution
, by Val McDermid. Chaz says that this is the best book by Val to start reading her mysteries with, and so far I've found it very compelling. Set in 1963, right after Kennedy's assassination, a young teenage girl has mysteriously disappeared from a remote English village.
I'm also reading various short stories by Chaz, with the aim of helping to select some of them to go into a collection that will be published by Lethe Press. That's a lot of fun, because I'm getting to read a lot of stories I hadn't known Chaz had written.
