Farewell, summer
Sep. 2nd, 2013 03:13 pmYesterday was a wonderful day. A couple of weeks ago I realized that Chaz and I hadn't managed to have a barbecue for our friends, even though we'd talked about having several this summer. We have a nice grill, a large backyard, and a clubhouse, so it would be perfect for a barbecue. I realized summer was ending, so yesterday we invited our friends over. What a lovely day.
Our friends are not only brilliant and interesting, they are also great cooks (or good shoppers, which works just as well). Along with Chaz's chili, tandoori chicken, garlic bread, and sesame seed buns, we had several kinds of salad (mmmmmmm), homemade cheese (aged for different times), chocolate decadence cake, kebabs, tri-tip steak, pear custard pie, cheesecake, fresh fruit, different kinds of fresh tomatoes, interesting alcoholic beverages, and even Juana's bocce balls (which were played with some skill as chair bocce).
I had such a great time talking with everybody, too. I haven't had a chance to get out much this summer, so having lots of people come here was perfect. I was able to walk around without my walker, too, though today I'm feeling it. Of course, now we're planning something for fall, possibly involving the fondue set the older godson sent via his sister. That should prove interesting.
