I have an odd boy-cat, too. Adams, by name. He does NOT want to be petted or brushed - unless HE wants to be petted and then the human servant better by golly be there to serve. He also will not come up on the bed when invited. He has important cat business elsewhere whenever I encourage him to come up and snuggle while I read before going to sleep. Nope, not having none of it. But once I'm deep in my book, comes a soft stealthy weight creeping up from the foot of the bed to settle on my lap. And he somehow reads my mind - the instant I think, "Time to turn in," I haven't moved a muscle, haven't closed the book, no hint that I can tell - he knows, and he springs right off the bed and trots for the hall. I shut my 2 (Adams and his sister O'Keefe) out of the bedroom at night because they will NOT leave me alone to sleep.
