Simnel Cake
Apr. 4th, 2006 01:45 pmI got a treat in the mail yesterday, that I had ordered from Betty's tea shop and bakery in Yorkshire. (The shop is in York, the bakery in Harrowgate.) A simnel cake is a like a layer cake with frosting, except that the cake is fruit cake, and the "frosting" is marzipan. And it's good fruit cake, freshly baked by hand, not something mass produced. Yum. Very nice. (I suppose I should have waited for Easter to eat it, but since I'm already giving up most of my food for Lent, I didn't. So there.)
