In which I finally see a movie ("Casino Royale")

I went to see Casino Royale last night and loved it. (It is also, incidentally, the first movie I've seen in two months. New Year's Resolution #72: see more movies.) All of the other Bond movies have been playing for the past couple of weeks on TV, so I've caught bits and pieces of them here and there. I won't spoil any of the new movie for you, but I will note that this Bond is not a cartoon, like the other Bonds have been to a greater or lesser extent, and that this movie did not have the same sexism and disposable women of the other movies (for one thing, the only character in the entire movie who appeared nude was James Bond). As [livejournal.com profile] maestrateresa commented, "It's like Bond Begins, a la Batman Begins."I recommend it for those who like action movies.

Bond Begins is it exactly. I'm not a big Bond fan, but I loved the movie and saw it twice.

Good to hear from you. thank you for the movie review. Seeing this is now added to the to-do in January list. It's thing number 8,512.

I concur. And Daniel Craig is hot.

You're back! :-) I'm going to see Casino Royale later today. I've heard nothing but good things about it, so I'm really looking forward to this.

Well, that cinches it. Casino Royal is next on my list. I saw Pan's Labyrinth the other day and while it is very violent, it was excellently done. I can not reccommend it to you tho because, as I said, it is really violent.

Just another point of view.

That's kind of how I felt about Casino Royale. There were bodies, or the promise of bodies, strewn everywhere. I find myself troubled by a 'crime fighter' who has no concern at all for the bystanders and construction workers who would have HAD to have been maimed and killed in this kind of violent action if it had really happened. The 'Bond' does inded have a beautiful body, but certainly very little conscience, and that leaves me cold.
