Christmas is over
Jan. 7th, 2007 01:40 pmI went to Twelfth Night this weekend, which is one of our three SCA coronations of the year (the other two being Beltane and Purgatorio). I wore a gorgeous new houppelande (with killer sleeves) made for me by
g0atface, as well as a stunning new hat made for me by
ysabella_dolfin. To fully appreciate this, it helps to know that I haven't had a brand new outfit for the SCA for slightly over ten years, much less one this beautiful, and I've long coveted a hat like my new one (the fact that it, too, is gorgeous is frosting on the cake). A couple of people took pictures, so I'll post links once they make it online.
Aside from walking about feeling beautiful :-), I spent most of my time talking to various people, including meeting some new ones. I saw most of the Golden Stag play, though I had to leave part way through because the chair and my back weren't working out. The Duchess' Masked Ball was splendid, though I spent most of my time there gabbing with a woman I just met who had majored in physics at Mount Holyoke while I was there majoring in math.
I wrote a new poem that will surely incite war with Cynagua, and am working on two other poems that are much nicer, one for Brion and one for Northshield.
Tomorrow, I start four days of residential management training in Fremont. I've been reading The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, and I think I need to start focusing more on leadership than management.

Date: 2007-01-07 10:29 pm (UTC)East Kingdom 12th Night was yesterday, but it was further away than we wanted to travel on a 2-day weekend. I don't have any garb dressy enough for a Kingdom 12th Night, and Steve has lost 30 pounds since the last time he wore his good Elizabethan outfit, which I imagine means it doesn't really fit very well anymore.
We'll go to the sort-of-local 12th Night in a couple weeks--it's hosted by a neighboring shire. That makes a drive of just over an hour, and we won't need to be quite so dressy with our garb.

Date: 2007-01-08 02:48 am (UTC)One key difference about leadership & management:
- management is about maintaining the status quo (
- leadership is about empowering people through change
Let me know what you think of the class. I always enjoy finding out about good leadership courses.
