I sent off a short story today. We'll see what happens. Whether it sells or not doesn't matter as much to me as the fact that I finally finished the thing. It's an idea I had a couple of years ago, a kind of feminist Arthurian story, which I've tried in a couple of different forms but hated. I like how it turned out, though as usual I waited until the last minute to finish it, so it could probably use a little more polish.

I'm also almost finished with A Feast for Crows, and I'm sorry I started reading it. The number of body parts -- fingers, nipples, hands, cheeks, breasts, and heads -- that have been hacked or chewed off has gotten to be ridiculous. Also, the series is turning into a lot of horrible, miserable characters that do horrible things to the very few decent characters remaining. I think this will be the last book of the series that I read.

Congratulations on story finished!

This series is a prime example of being way too much longer than it needed to be or should be.

Author needs toe cross-cut so often to follow all these characters and subplots, that the reader can't get comfortable anywhere in the book, and then reader realizes that Nothing is happening, not really, just lots of cross-cutting and lines of narrative, but they do not go anywhere, and if the author had just had the self-discipline to cut ruthlessly this o, so beloved new scene demanding yet another new character way back at in, oh say volume one or two, author would really be in the middle of finishing volume three, and the series as a whole, and everyone would be happier!
