The various earthquake sites tell me that was a magnitude 5.6 I felt a few minutes after eight o'clock. The whole house was shaking quite noticeably, and a couple of little things fell off the shelves. It went on for quite a few seconds, and grew in intensity, so I stood in the doorway away from things that could fall on me. From what I can figure out from the earthquake sites, the epicenter was within twenty miles south of me.

I can't get though on the phone to either of the kids. M is at fighter practice. A was going to a games things. I hope all are OK. I felt nothing here, but J felt it shaking hard in Brentwood!

Wishing you well!

I, too, estimated it felt more like a 6, but then, what would I know? ;-)
Everything rattled noticably, and it felt like a hammock swinging.

I couldn't get the kids on the phone until about 8:40 -- no circuits.

There was an earthquake? Tonight?

We didn't feel a thing here.

I was sitting at the computer, but not using it, when the keyboard (which rests lightly on my legs) began to shiver. Damn, thought I, I will have to reset all my power sources. Then it stopped. 3, thought I, maybe a 4.

I think it didn't hit everywhere the same. According to the overly excited newsreaders (at last! news!) no one was hurt. A jar of pickles broke somewhere.

I'm so glad that it seems everyone I know in the area is okay.

When I came to New England, and people found out I was from CA, they would ask (wide-eyed), "Have you ever been in an earthquake?"

I told them, "If you've been in California 3 days, you've been in an earthquake. Most are just too small to feel!"

And here you folks are, so well-versed in earthquakes that you're able to estimate magnitudes. You sound like a bunch of wine tasters! ;-)

I'm glad everyone's ok!
