I'm about a third of the way through Territory, by Emma Bull, and I am enjoying it immensely. The characters are interesting and sucked me in right away, and the story is intriguing. I'm also impressed with the writing, which is excellent. Having read other books by her, I think the rest of the book will be just as enjoyable. The last time I was in Tucson, Kath and Sue took me with them to Tombstone and showed me around, so the descriptions in the book and what I saw on that trip match well, and I can almost feel the desert air.

I also admit to being a complete wuss when it comes to horror movies, and even so I still loved I Am Legend. Will Smith did a great job, and the plot and pacing were perfect. I haven't read the book, so I can't comment on anything that was changed, but I really liked it. My heart was still racing on the drive home, and that was *after* staying through the extremely long credits.

I realize these are vague as far as reviews go, but I didn't want to spoil anything and I'm too lazy to go look up the cut tag syntax, so this will have to do.

You have now answered my question as to what someone unfamiliar with the book would think of I AM LEGEND. Thank you.

I remember that Tombstone trip quite well. It always gives a book an extra bit of oomph when you've been to the places the author describes, doesn't it? Well, assuming the author knows what she's talking about, which Emma does. 8)

I like her stuff

Similar experience: realizing that the alternate universe in one particular book I was reading was accessed through the back kitchen window of a very well described house in the neighborhood I grew up in! Next time I was there, I went out for a walk to see the house again. (The book named the town and mentioned a street name or two, so I know I was right.)

It was a good choice of setting -- I remember that house as being tucked away behind a few trees and rather spooky-looking...

I was curious how you think "I am Legend" stacks up against "Omega Man".

One fantasy novel I read was set in the Winchester Mystery House and the domed movie theaters next door to it, which are only a couple of miles from my house.

I didn't see "Omega Man" either.

I liked Territory, too. The story/writing held up well throughout, in my opinion.

I loved Territory. As I read I could smell the dust. It was summer when I was there last and it fit so well.

I have been hesitating about Legend.

Teresa told me about that one, but I never got around to reading it.
