When I arrived in Santa Clara this evening after working all day in San Francisco, the sky looked cloudy and dark, like it was about to rain. I went out again about an hour later, and the clouds were still there. The moon was out, too, and it was red, the deep, dark pink of dilated blood. I realized the clouds were smoke. There's a huge fire raging south of here in the Santa Cruz mountains, near where another fire burned a week or so ago. I'm not in any danger, but many people are. The moon is still out, and it's a dark orange now, fitting for Friday the 13th.
