When I was a small child, I knew goblins lived under the bed (and this knowledge led to a weird way of sleeping that ultimately caused lots of back problems, but that's a different story). When I was in college I was back at home making my bed, and laughed to myself about how silly I was as a kid, to believe in goblins. Just at that moment my cat, Patch, reached out from under the bed and wrapped both paws around my ankles. I teleported away, and for the next week ran to jump into bed so the goblins couldn't get me.
When I was going through my divorce, my cat Bugsy, would drape herself around the top of my head and purr me to sleep. I wouldn't have survived that period without her.
If they are sharing the bed with you, they do have sharper claws than people. But unlike dogs, they don't jump up, run to the window and start barking in the middle of the night.
