Sunday's Adventure

On Sunday,
annmprice and I slept in late. Heavenly. Once we were properly up and dressed, we walked the block or so to the Las Vegas Hilton. It felt like we were walking through a dryer set on high. There was a very nice monorail right above us, with cars shooting back and forth, but it wasn't in service yet. At least it worked as a shade provider.
Once at the Hilton, we quickly found the Star Trek Experience, and had lunch in Quark's. They changed the menu since last time, and don't offer nearly as many food items (though their drinks list took up a third of the menu), nor was the food as good as last time. Still, it was food. We bought our tickets for the new Borg Experience, which includes the original Klingon ride as well. We went on the Klingon ride first, and it was just as much fun as the first five times I went on it. (Be sure to be last in line once it starts, so you'll get to be in the front row for the cool part.) The Borg Experience was a lot of fun, too, though different. There's more interaction with the "crew", and the ride part is 3D (with glasses) with a little bit of motion, not mostly motion. I interacted with the actors, which I think surprised them, but I was really getting into it. I want to come back next time with some costumes, a Next Gen for the Borg Experience and an Original one for one of their new products. You can act in an "episode", which puts you into a short sequence made up of clips from the old show, which follows a new plot line. You get to take home a video tape of it.
After our otherworldly experience, we went back to the hotel for a nap, then a shower. Then we went to the Paris buffet for dinner. Oh, my. The food there is exquisite. There are stations around the room with food from different parts of France, plus a pastry section in the middle. I started with a fresh crepe with blueberries and a raspberry sauce, then moved on to a selection of beef, veal, and lamb with their own sauces. The mashed potatoes were the creamiest I've ever had. They had good cheeses, quiche, sea food, and pasta. I only managed one pastry for dessert, I was so full.
After dinner we shot craps at the Monte Carlo. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to win this weekend, and I was right. What I wasn't ready for was just how unlucky our table was going to be. If I had really been there to win, I would have left almost immediately, but since I was having fun and learning more about the game, I stayed. Most people crapped out almost immediately. Usually a shooter will have a reasonable run, and you can make a little bit depending on how you place your bets. That night, the shooter would make his or her number, everyone would bet, and the shooter would roll a 7. Over and over again. I did fairly well (at one point a croupier commented that I was the best shooter all evening), but I only won about twenty dollars on myself. Still, a useful and fun evening, if somewhat costly. I probably spent more on Star Trek toys than I lost at craps.
