What happened to my heat?

Yesterday I wore my winter coat, a lined raincoat, to San Francisco for the first time this fall. Good thing, as it was raining when I waited for the bus after work. It's dark when I get home, and DST hasn't started yet. I turned the furnace on last night, though it hasn't kicked on yet. Today I'm working from my clubhouse. I'm wearing sweatpants and a T-shirt, and I'm cold. The ground in the back yard is damp from the recent rain. I hate cold, damp weather. Yes, even though I whined all summer about it being too hot, I'd much rather have too hot.

Our building's heat came on the night before last, but not since.

One assumes that will change tonight as the temp is to fall into the 30's. Too soon for that, if you ask me. But nobody did ask me, so there ya go!

Nor have I yet managed to get my sort of overwhelmed self out to buy new gloves!

We returned from that unexpected trip to Texas earlier this week to find that ourselves wishing someone could have come into our house at least a few hours ahead of us and turned the heat on (and fetched one of my winter nightgowns from a storage box in the basement).

I had my pilot light re-lit on the day after it was 100 degrees, and was thinking I might live to regret it ...

Nope!

Just in time. It cooled down right after that.

Hurtling into winter - this morning when I left for work it was full dark. No meager little signs of dawn at all. Last night I had to turn on the headlights on the way home from train station. I mind the dark even more than the cold, I think.
