Jun. 25th, 2014 03:25 pmEven though I'm technically unemployed, I've been very busy, and possibly even productive. In the last month, I finished a new story and sent it in to an anthology, though I won't hear back for a while, and finished the Coursera course "The Data Manager's Toolkit" class with flying colors, and am almost done with "R Programming", which I'm doing well in so far. When I finish the Coursera courses that offer certificates, I can automatically put them on my LinkedIn profile (and I add them to my resume), so that's a nice bonus.
I'm talking to a bunch of headhunters right now, and they're looking for people with my background for the kinds of jobs I'm interested in, so that's a good sign. It's early days yet for that, though. I'm certainly hoping, though, but I continue to look.
It's nice to be home with Chaz and the boys, though. The turtles haven't been out much lately, but they're usually busiest in the spring. I've been working on feline behavior modification, and I'm seeing some signs of improvement. Mac has learned that fighting with Barry in my study is Right Out, and he's started to get the idea that fighting everywhere else isn't so good, either. I bought Barry his own scratching post with its own platform, just like Mac's (only slightly shorter with a smaller platform, but better scratching post). Barry knows it's his, and slept on top of the platform two days running. Mac knows it's Barry's, too, though he does try sleeping on Barry's platform. I move him to his own, and his tail jerks back and forth, but he knows he's been caught. I don't mind if he uses the scratching post, though, since it has rope on it, so it's stronger than his own.
Stories get written, resumes get sent out, science is learned, the boys stalk birdies through the windows, the sun shines over all: this is a good time. An impending job offer would make it better.
