The vapors

I've developed an odd habit of fainting at the end of aikido class. They tell me I turn white, and I've noticed that my fingernails turn dark purple. I'm hoping it's just a combination of increased exercise and my asthma, which is exercise-induced. I have a doctor's appointment for a week from Monday, since my doctor is out of town all next week. We shall see.

I have a new friend that I'm getting to know. I had actually met him about ten years ago and run into him on occasion since then, but when I was down in L.A. a couple of weeks ago I had a chance to talk to him and start to get to know him. He's very smart, very funny, and very nice, and has traveled all over the world and made many interesting things (such as an amusement park).

Yes, my feet swell up, too. I talked to my father today, and he said that my grandmother and my aunt had the same problem. When other people stand up, the blood vessels in their feet contract and push the blood upwards. When Grandmother and and my aunt stand up, the blood vessels don't contract, so they faint sometimes when they stand up. I think that's what's happening to me. I'll still check with my doctor.

Sympathies. I've learned the hard way not to wear rings when doing long walks as my hand dangling at the end of my arm causes my hand to swell. Of course that isn't as much of a problem anymore, but back in the days when I could do long hikes, it matters.
