Tachyon's Twentieth

I have several favorite authors, and I will buy their books immediately, but I don't really pay much attention to who publishes the books. The authors, the books, are what's important. Except for Tachyon. I suspect it's odd to have a favorite publisher, but when I come across one of their tables at a convention I'm bound to buy several books, and to already have many of what's left. And yes, they do publish works by some of my favorite authors, but some of those authors became famous because I bought their books published by Tachyon. The world jumbles life around.
Yesterday I went up to the City (around here, that means San Francisco) with Chaz to Tachyon Publications' Twentieth Anniversary party. It was held in a library a little off the main transit route, but we drove up there and actually found a parking spot (a handicapped spot on the street just a couple of blocks away!). It was a fun party, with a cake in the shape of Tachyon's rhino, plus other snacks and drinks. There was a free book by Charlie Jane, who was there signing them as well. Jacob Weisman, the owner, was there as you'd expect, but Rina Weisman was at the vet with their sick kitty.
One thing that struck me is that many of the people there, the ones I knew were all writers and editors and publishers, and most of them were my friends. Effie made the cake. I got to catch up with Deb and hear about the music she'd been making. Bob Silverberg was there, and I went up and said hi, and re-introduced myself. Ellen Datlow was in town for the party, and I got to reacquaint myself with her. Mad and Nancy were there, and Juliette and Tim and Rhiannon and Niall (in a very cool coat), and Nick Mamatas was there fresh from tai chi. I had a great time talking with people, and the cake was delicious. I like my circle of friends.
