In order to actually Get Things Done, I'm starting up a scribe night on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. I've discovered that the only way I'll do any scribing these days is if people come over to my house, sit at my table, and start scribing. Then I'll join them. I'm not sure why, though I suspect that my eyesight being much worse for near work has something to do with it.

No, scribe as in calligrapher and illuminator. A writer's group would be nice, but I don't belong to one right now.

I started having the same problem with the small details a few years ago. Generally people's sight gets bad after they turn 40, give a take a couple of years. The result in my case was having to get bifocals (YIKES). So, yes, I recommend getting your eyes checked. As a temporary measure, a decent pair of reading glases may help...

Getting bifocals was a bit creepy, but being able to see the details in my C&I and needlework made it all worth it!

I did get reading glasses, but part of the problem with my eyes getting old is that one of them is farsighted and the other one is nearsighted. The glasses force my eyes to work together, but still one of them is doing most of the work depending on what I look at. This aging things sucks.

Calligraphy and illumination sounds like fun. My eyes have gotten so bad tho (diabetes & some macular degeneration) that I think I might be able to color a childs coloring book and -perhaps- stay within the lines...

I have bifocals, btw. I got the kind with no line and the blurring was so bad I went to the kind with a line. I got used to it in about 10 minutes. I got the 'executive' kind. Line right across the middle, not a little dot in the lower area.
