WFC, Day 4 (Sunday)
If this con report has sounded like one giant party with old friends, that's because that's what it was.
Sunday morning I wandered into the con suite again for breakfast, and had interesting conversations with total strangers, which is pretty usual. After that, I had an hour before I needed to gather my bag, check out, and go to the airport, so I went to "A Quiet Place to Write", with Jane Lindskold, Irene Radford, Patricia McKillip, and Nina Kiriki Hoffman. I thought this would be a dull topic, but it was actually quite useful and interesting. Jane Lindskold was a prepared and skillful moderator, and asked good questions. Nina told about how she makes "writing dates" with friends, where they get together and write for 45 minutes, then take 15 minutes breaks. Everyone told how they motivate themselves, and how they set up their environments for writing. Patricia McKillip still writes with a pen, notebook paper, and a clipboard. Jane L. told about how she learned to write while being a full time professor, so she can write anywhere and any time. Irene Radford used to write in the two and a half hours in the mornings when the computer (in her son's room) was free to use.
After the panel I ran into Sharyn again, who remembered me from when we'd had dinner together several years ago. After the YA panel she'd shown me her fake teeth, but this time we had a brief talk about clothing and style.
And then I went home. What a fun weekend.
