Last September, during the excitement surrounding Talk Like a Pirate Day, somebody (probably Neil Gaiman's blog) mentioned that John M. Ford had proposed Talk Like Dr. Stephen Maturin Day. I emailed John M. Ford and asked him what day that would be, but he didn't answer (probably because he gets hundreds of emails asking the same thing, I'm sure). So, what would be a good day for it? We don't know Stephen's birthday. I was thinking that the defeat of Napoleon would not be a good day for it, but I don't know if the second start of the Napoleon war had a fixed date. Something to do with Nelson would be more appropriate if it were a Jack Aubrey Day of some sort. Any suggestions?

Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo, a definitive date, but it does seem sort of English, rather than Irish...if only we knew the exact dates of those various "Today is a day to mark with a white stone" days of his!
