My friend Howard (married to my friend Kit) was once a member of a comedy group called Congress of Wonder. They were together in the sixties, and for a while were the morning hosts for KSAN. Wesley, one of the other members of the group, was in town with his sixteen-year-old son Jonathan, so Howard invited some friends over for a small party. Listening to Wesley and Howard reminisce was fascinating. Wesley had kept track of who they had performed with over the years, and had brought the list with him, and as he went through the list he and Howard talked about them. One time Wesley came out of his dressing room and met Pat Paulsen, and said, "Oh, my god!" Pat Paulsen said, "I am not," and walked past him. Martin Mull played music at Wesley's first wedding, and they sang together. The conversation was interesting and funny. I hope they write a book about it all.

I also talked to Jonathan, who lives with his father on a farm outside of town in the middle of Florida, yet is also a Goth/D&D player/serious anime fan. He told me in some detail about his Mary Sue character for his favorite manga. In the small world department, he's friends with the son of Thomas the Incomplete.

All in all, it was a very fun evening.
