a weekend off

I've tried very hard to not think about work all weekend, and been reasonably successful.

I finally saw "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", and loved the Oompa-Loompas. Er, the Oompa-Loompa. And the songs. The cast was great, the kids were awful, Charlie was wonderful, and Christopher Lee did a good job even though I didn't like that part of the story.

I committed shopping therapy, and got two new pairs of work shoes (on sale), a carry case for my iPod (not an official Apple one, which is useless, but a wallet-sized purse, so the ear bug cord doesn't get caught on things in my bag), and a beautiful new top from Coldwater Creek. This one is bright and colorful, and looks great on me. I mostly wear blouses in single colors, and I think this will make me look less plain.

I also got two polo shirts for the elder godson, [livejournal.com profile] psychic_fish, who wore one to the mall with me when I took him to get job applications. Then we went back to his house and created a resume for him to use, both to have the info all in one place for the job applications and to use when he needs an actual resume.

And, of course, I read (started The Ghost Sister and read some chapters in Golf for Dummies) and watched TV (Firely, Battlestar Galactica, The 4400, The Dead Zone, Teen Titans) and ate too much.

I hope you all had good weekends, too.

We find ourselves not going out on Friday evenings, not even going out to dinner, so that we can catch Firefly at 7 p.m. and then Steve watches Battlestar at 10.

Oooh, Coldwater Creek. I love looking at their catalogs, but there's no store near here, and I am not quite brave enough to spend that kind of money for something I can't try on and see in a mirror first.

I bought lots of things -- dresses, shorts, blouses -- from the Coldwater Creek catalog and never had a problem with the wrong size, and I'm oddly proportioned. Their sizing guidelines are excellent. I love their clothes.

OMG, you mean I'm not the only person on my f-list who watches The 4400?

You are not alone. It's getting better and better this season, too.

It's getting better and better this season, too.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it, which I honestly didn't expect. I liked the original mini-series, but wasn't sure they could keep the premise going without it devolving into a redundant "mutant ability of the week" show.

shopping therapy

My weekend involved sleeping, reading, and eating junkfood. It's all good.

Going to the mall doesn't make me feel better. It just makes me feel fat. I've decided that what I like to buy are houses. I like looking at them, researching the neighborhoods, I like how nice they look when fixed up, and I like having them rented out. So this weekend I looked at some, and told my Realtor to put in an offer on a really cute place on a lovely tree-lined street.

You knew I wasn't normal. :-)

Hey, some people buy Star Trek toys, some people are really smart and buy houses.

My weekend involved writing like a crazed weasel on Saturday and coming into work on Sunday.
