Back from Pocatello
Sep. 6th, 2005 09:50 pmI spent the last week visiting my mother in Pocatello, and doing some of the ritual things one does on a trip to Pocatello.
* We ate dinner at Buddy's, the Italian bar/restaurant that's been there for over thirty years. The last time they remodeled, they got rid of the slanting floor in back, so it's a little less charming now. Their salads, made with a wonderful garlic and bleu cheese dressing, are still to die for.
* We went to the Eastern Idaho State Fair, which I haven't gone to for almost thirty years. It looks smaller, but not that much smaller. We saw the 300 pound pumpkins, the home made quilts, the 4H and Future Farmers of America exhibits, the photography, and the cows and horses and rabbits and sheep and chickens. The Midway made me wish I had some kids with me, so I could watch them ride the rides. The food court was excellent. There were actually multiple Chinese and Mexican food booths to go along with the barbeque, hot dog, and burger booths. We had some excellent ice cream from a local dairy. (We also got to see cows being milked, but not in the food court.)
* We didn't go to Lava Hot Springs, the natural outdoor hot pools, because by the time came when we had planned to go, we were too tired from the above activities, plus everything else we did. Next time, though.
Mom is a big tennis fan, so we watched a lot of the U.S. Open. She explained the rules of the game, and told me about some of the players, and it was actually a lot of fun to watch. We're thinking of going to the French Open next summer. That could be a blast.
And now I'm home.
