I played nine holes of golf yesterday morning, with my current boss and my previous boss. (I invited the previous boss so he and the current boss could hang out and talk while I hit the ball a million times.) I got a 93 for nine holes, though I did get a 6 on one of the par 4 holes, which is what my previous boss also got. I'm moving from absolutely terrible to terrible. My current boss got an eagle (two under par) on a par 5 hole, which is very, very good.

Unfortunately, I overdid the golf this week, because when I got home last night, my right calf muscle (almost to my knee) was knotted up, and my right foot was swollen. This was incredibly, incredibly painful. I tried ice, heat, and ibuprofen, and it still hurt incredibly. I found one position where it didn't hurt (sitting on the side of the bed with just my right lower leg dangling over the side), and about every twenty minutes I had to sit like that so burning hot needles wouldn't jab my ankle. Finally, towards morning, the time period between when my leg would be in agony kept getting longer and longer, so I got a little bit of sleep. Then [livejournal.com profile] learnteach came over and brought me a much better ice pack, a heating pad, and a new bottle of ibuprofen, so I'm feeling much better. I still can barely walk, but it hurts a lot less. I'm not even going to try driving.

Somehow I don't think I'll be doing much golfing this week.

Ow! :-(

I hope this gets better. I've had a slightly knotted calf muscle for the last few weeks and it's not pleasant.

But the golf sounds fun! My dad taught me to play golf years ago - I haven't played it since, but it was one of the sports-related things I actually enjoyed.

Today my calf is much better, but my back went out. I was afraid it would, from me having to walk oddly and lie down so much. Sigh.

I'm surprised at how much I enjoy golf. Maybe it's just that I get to go outside and walk around in a pleasant area with friends, while hitting things with clubs. :-) When you come out here next you're welcome to come golfing with me.

Ow!! Maybe there are some good pre-post golf stretches? I suspect it's using your muscles in different ways...

I second what Darcy suggests about finding pre-golfing stretches.

Post-golfing is simple: hot tub.

That golf, a dangerous sport, all right!

Ack, not the back again!

Well, if anyone knows about sports-pain revovery, it's Learnteach. Good luck. Golf is another sport that will develop you lopsidedly, snf I'm sure somebody's come up with specific exercises and stretches, as others have mentioned. Take care of yourself.

You're improving. Now to get your body used to playing golf. Ouch! Sympathies (and virtual heat).

That's what Michael-san used to say about golfing.

I try to wander through once in awhile, but I'm not very active here.

I much prefer dm.net.
