I need to send in Page copy for the Mists Bardic feast by Friday, and I don't have a Bard's Choice theme yet. I've been thinking about "a piece in praise of a Laurel", which would be nice, but kind of general. I've also been thinking of "a war song for the Mists", since the Princess has asked me to write one, but I may just go ahead and write one. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Perhaps the owl and the pussy cat/lion? Her Highness's totem beastie is an owl and His Highness's is a lion.

Hmm...that has possibilities. Thanks.

Is this the ceremony for Hilary and Bjorn?

Nope!

That's at June Crown; this is the Mist's Bardic, later on.

No, this is the competition to choose the next Bard of the Mists.

Yes, I see that now. It goes to show that one should not read and post while in a rush to pick up her keys to go out!

Good luck on that!!

"War song for the Mists" has been done previously. Not a fatal problem, just saying.

I think there have been several war songs for the Mists. If someone were to send me one, I'd be happy to help popularize it. :-)

What I meant was that it's been done before as the theme for Bard's Choice. Sorry for being ambiguous.

Ah. I still don't have the bardic history book from the last Bard, which may or may not have that kind of info in it. Thanks.

I'd go for a piece

in praise of an art in the Mists. Or...an activity that could really deserve praise: The Battle of Scribes and Scrolls. The Army of Art Against Antagonistic Athletic Arbitrary Advisors. (All Alliterative!)

That might hit a little close to home.

How about something really general?

I would like to hear a grand, sweeping piece on the entirety of the SCA. Most things appear to be about individuals or specific kingdoms/principalities/local groups. How about something that touches our hearts as to why we are in the SCA at all, something without the "nationalism" touch?

Maybe this is too broad for the venue...so just an idea.

That's an interesting idea. Thanks.
