Hometown haiku

A few months ago, a bunch of people I know were writing hometown haiku, and this is the one I wrote. Feel free to contribute your own hometown haiku.

Idaho

Mountains, forests, snow--
admire the stunning vistas.
Ignore the people.

No, any desire to see my old house evaporated when I heard that the new owners (back in 1976) had cut down the box elder tree in the back yard. The one whose trunk was so thick my father and his friend couldn't touch hands around it at chest height.

Boy, do I sympathize: the schmucks that bought my parent's house cut down the 75-foot Eucs in the front, took out all the hawthorne and pyracantha that hid it from the street, and painted it baby blue. They say you can't go home again, but they don't tell you why: because it's been ruined by jerks....
