The last couple of days have been themed Sleeping Late and Preparing for Chaz. Given that Chaz first saw my house three days after I moved in, so it was filled almost entirely with cardboard boxes, and he still came back to visit, you'd think that preparing for his visit wouldn't be something to worry about. But. Well. Anyway, yesterday [livejournal.com profile] acanthusleaf came over and helped me fix some things around the house and put together my new bookcase/cabinet. By "helped me" I mean "did most of it herself", because she's really the tool user of the two of us. The bookcase looks great, and now I have more space to put the things that are still in boxes.

Today I spent sleeping very late (see Theme 1) and shopping (see Theme 2). I learned some interesting things in the course of visiting Bed, Bath, and Beyond. They do in fact sell duvets. ("Duvet" is French for "down" in the sense of "duck feathers". I would feel more foolish about not knowing this before except that one of the few sentences I can say in French translates to "I don't know how to speak French.") They call the duvets they sell "down comforters" but these aren't the down comforters I'm used to, which makes me feel slightly less stupid. However, these duvets are darned expensive, so I didn't pick any up. Now that I know what I'm looking for I can budget for them. Also, I'm allergic to down, but the ones they have claim that they are allergy-free, and the saleswoman said they are seriously scrubbed to remove anything that hints of an allergen, so I'll probably be OK sleeping with one.

Downy feathers produce allergens when they dry out and disintegrate. IE, scrubbing only works for a little while.
