I have taken home my boss's wife's golf clubs for the weekend, so I can take them to a driving range and try to hit more balls. I'm feeling very corporate right now. I'm trying to turn myself from "geeky" to "charmingly eccentric".

I also got some tickets to the Giants/Mets game next weekend. These are someone else's season tickets, and look like they're good seats. They also come with free parking, and include a special season ticketholders' picnic on the field after the game. Anyone want to go with me?

The difference between "geeky" and "charmingly eccentric" is a bigger paycheck.

That's what I'm fervently hoping.

We'll be in Chicago, otherwise I'd be screaming "Meeeee!"

BTW, speaking of matters corporate, my new boss looks enough like you I do doubletakes.

Really? I have a double? Is there any way you could take a covert picture and send it to me?

I'll have to see what I can do. I've only met her the twice since the news. (This week, my department was forceably transferred over to Development and half our staff cut. My boss found a new job just before being demoted in the process. I'm now reporting to the regression QC manager.)

I was born in Tucson. Maybe this is my long-lost twin.

I think she was originally from Florida.

Isn't golf bourgeois? Doesn't getting good tickets to a sporting event when one knows nothing about the sport reek of bourgeoisie? I understand about the urge to appear eccentric and harmless in your social circle, but what about the reality of who you are minus the attempt to appear to be this or that?

If you honestly feel like playing golf and attending sporting events, then that is not an attempt to be eccentric. It is expressing yourself.

If, on the other hand, you play golf and attend sporting events that you otherwise could not care less about, then you are playing a part, and are being less than honest, or an actor.

I love you, Karen. Don't be someone that other people need or want you to be, or even someone who you want you to be in others' eyes.

Just be you. Don't plan out your future life based on the critical or kind eyes of others.

Do what you want to do just because you want to do it, not because you are throwing up some smokescreen that makes you appear to be this or that.

With love,

Coke

I've wanted to learn to play golf for years, but I haven't had anybody to play with. Now I work at a company with avid golf players, across the street from a golf course, so I'm taking advantage of it. It's also a good career move, since I'll be interacting with customers more.

As for baseball, I like to watch the occasional live game, especially since there are several really good teams within fifty miles of where I live. I just don't get to do these things very often, because very few of my friends like them, so I usually don't have anyone to go with me.

BUT the question is;

Do you value your image of yourself over the realityof yourself?

Do your attempts at goodness depend on your self or the self of others?

But this is the reality of myself. I'm having fun doing things that I rarely get to do, that I enjoy. The fact that playing golf may help my career is completely beside the fact that I've wanted to learn how to play for a long time.

I hate waking up after a night drinking and finding that I have unduly challenged the honesty of someone.

I know that apologizing doesn't make it better, but I do apologize.

My personal life is f'd up right now and I have been taking it out on other people for some time.

You do whatever you want, and don't listen to those who question your motives.

I feel horrible.
