I've started a playlist on my iPod that consists of songs that are about or reference Superman, even one time. So far, I only have four:

Superman (It's Not Easy) --- Five for Fighting

Where are You Going? --- Dave Mathews Band

Kryptonite --- 3 Doors Down

White Wedding, Pt. 1 --- Billy Idol

Anybody have any to add?

Does this count as cheating? Look here (http://www.lyricslook.com/query.aspx?Upper%24BigSearch%24searchText=superman&Upper%24BigSearch%24searchType=Lyrics&x=8&y=10).

Thanks! I've been trying to remember the name of that one (which would have been obvious if I had been able to remember more about it than "that Superman song from like, the sixties or something").

I can set you up with at least two: Man of Metropolis by sufjan stevens and Sunshine Superman by Donovan (I have a really rocking version of that one). Shall I YSI them to you? Both are recommended....

Also, one that I DON"T have: "Don't Mess Around With Jim" by Jim Croce, with the memorable line in the chorus: "You don't tug on Superman's cape."

There is one by REM, called Superman. The lyrics go something like "...I am, I am, I am Superman and I can do anything...".

Thanks. I didn't know who did that one, though it always seems to turn out that when I like a song but don't know who does it, it turns out to be REM.

Also, on the Spin Doctor's album called Pocket full of Kryptonite, the song is called "Jimmy Olsen's Blues".

And there is a classic rap song called "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugar Hill Gang. Funny... Here are the lyrics in question:

well i was comin home late one dark afternoon
a reporter stopped me for a interview
she said she's heard stories and she's heard fables
that i'm vicious on the mike and the turntables
this young reporter i did adore
so i rocked a vicious rhyme like i never did before
she said damn fly guy im in love with you
the casanova legend must have been true
i said by the way baby what's your name
said i go by the name of lois lane
and you could be my boyfiend you surely can
just let me quit my boyfriend called superman
i said he's a fairy i do suppoose
flyin through the air in pantyhose
he may be very sexy or even cute
but he looks like a sucker in a blue and red suit
i said you need a man who's got finesse
and his whole name across his chest
he may be able to fly all through the night
but can he rock a party til the early light
he cant satisfy you with his little worm
but i can bust you out with my super sperm
i go do it, i go do it, i go do it, do it , do it

Both Kinks songs. There's one about "Superman", and another one about America that references Superman obliquely.

I assume you don't want to walk down the dark alley of filk songs ...?

Filk songs are kind of cheating, don't you think? I mean, I could write one. Hmm....

Ah, and the website for Lazlo Bane also says it ('Superman') is the theme from "Scrubs".

Not that I watch it or anything, 'cause I don't.
